Fancy helping to make some puppet-based magic as part of the Christmas Light Festival?

Oxford Playhouse and Smoking Apples are excited to offer you the opportunity to become a puppeteer during Oxford’s annual Christmas Light Festival celebrations. Award-winning theatre company Smoking Apples use innovative puppetry to create poignant social and political theatre but they’re ‘taking a break’ to bring two loved puppets, Xalia and Atom, to join in the festivities.

We are looking for volunteers to assist Smoking Apples with the operation of the two puppets, Xalia and Atom. Volunteers will operate the limbs of each puppet as they walk through the streets of Oxford and meet members of the public. No previous experience of puppetry is required, as you will take part in a workshop with Smoking Apples to learn all you need to know to bring Xalia and Atom to life.

You need to be available:

  • 1-4pm and 5-10pm on Friday 25 November
  • 2.30-3.30pm and 4.30-10pm on Saturday 26 November.

You will need to wear:

  • Walking boots/shoes or trainers
  •  Lightweight black (or dark coloured) trousers and top in which you can move easily
  • Lightweight black (or dark coloured) waterproof jacket

Oxford Playhouse will provide hoodies.
