We tell ourselves stories every day. About who we are, how we fit into the world. What we're good at, bad at, who we're supposed to be.

Oh, so like, are you saying when I tell myself I'm bad at maths, that's a story?

In a way, yes. It's a narrative we've created and the more we continue to tell ourselves it, the longer we fulfill it.

Like a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Exactly.

So... I could be good at maths?

The school newspaper has run out of stories. Nothing interesting has happened for months. They may be forced to publish the canteen menu or the bin rota or about the kid who's broken their arm, again.

Unwritten is a play about the importance of stories in our everyday lives. Devised over the nine weeks of the Summer Term, this piece has been written based on ideas created by the Playhouse Youth Theatre, an ensemble of young theatre makers aged 12 to 16.
